The Bank of Canada has announced that effective March 1, 2017 they will be making some changes to the publication of Foreign Exchange rates. The full update can be accessed here. The change that may impact issuers most is the elimination of the publication of the noon exchange rate.
The daily average exchange rates are published once each business day by 16:30 ET. If you select a date that falls on a weekend, the search will display rates for the closest business day(s) to that date. Leading and trailing date ranges where the exchange rate for a currency does not exist are omitted. All Bank of Canada exchange rates are indicative rates only, obtained from averages of aggregated price quotes from financial institutions. Please read our full Terms and Conditions for details. The daily average exchange rates are published once each business day by 16:30 ET. A Bank of Canada spokesperson said both rates (the noon rate and the indicative rate) were published from March 1 but as of May 1, only the indicative rate is to be published. On its website the Bank has explained the methodology behind calculating the new indicative rate. The noon rate was a term used by the Bank of Canada (BOC) to describe the publication of a specific foreign exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the Canadian dollar (CAD). The rate was released by 12:45 p.m. by the Bank of Canada on a daily basis, and was based on CAD trading taking place from 11:59 a.m. to 12:01 p.m. on that day.
